KELBROOK & SOUGH VILLAGE HALL (SEPTEMBER 2007)

The Skipton Building Society Charitable Foundation has donated £2,000 to Kelbrook & Sough Village Hall to fund a new kitchen and utensils. It was agreed that there was a need for increased access to a range of services as well as educational and leisure activities in the village and Kelbrook & Sough Village Hall was the answer. The new kitchen is part of a development plan which the Committee has been working on to improve the building so the local community can take full advantage of its facilities. The Luncheon Club, which regularly dines at the hall, will also benefit from the new kitchen.

In 2003 Kelbrook Parish Hall became Kelbrook & Sough Village Hall, a facility held in trust for the benefit of the community available to all who live in Kelbrook and Sough. The village hall provides a unique function to the area because it is the only local venue where groups can meet and social events are held. As such it has an important role in helping to ensure the viability of this rural community.

Mary Miller, Trustee & Secretary, commented, "The Committee's prime responsibility is the care and maintenance of this valuable village asset. Skipton Building Society 's support has been a key element in our fundraising efforts to develop the new kitchen area and has helped us achieve a kitchen designed to a very high standard for which Kelbrook and Sough Village Hall Management Committee are most grateful".

Deborah Kirby, branch manager of Skipton's Barnoldswick branch, on behalf of the Skipton Building Society Charitable Foundation, added, "We are delighted to have been able to donate to such a worthy cause that will help the local community. Our Charitable Foundation aims to make a real difference to people's lives and any registered charities that are looking for help can pick up an application form from their nearest Skipton branch."
